Want to explore v-coaching?
Here are some tips for building trust with your candidate:
Do what you say you are going to do.
Be clear about expectations.
Take responsibility for your mistakes.
Show genuine concern for your candidate and try to provide support for the hopes and dreams expressed.
If you break trust with your candidate (even if they believe you did and you believe otherwise), try to quickly work out any misunderstandings by your actions and not just your words.
You may want to keep a record of the following:
Your interactions with your candidate
How the online course is progressing as reported by the candidate
Your reflections on your candidate's progress
Any thoughts you may want to share in periodic online or in-person v-coach meet-ups.
Progress towards SMART goals outlined in the candidate's Personal Development Plan (PDP)
Your candidate's career aspirations, learning challenges and recommended next steps.
Any recommendations you may have for program leaders
